Outside the Lines – Press Release
The Pop Shop Gallery is proud to announce its 2nd summer show of 2008 entitled “Outside the Lines” on Saturday, August 16th from 6p-9p. This show is dedicated to all of the artists who couldn’t keep their crayons inside their coloring books lines when they were young. We’ve all grown up and now master our canvases with exceptional contemporary work.
This show runs from August 16th – September 27. Gallery hours are Tuesday – Saturday 12p-7pm (closed Sunday and Monday).
An after party will be hosted at Mullen’s (located next to the gallery) immediately following the opening reception with drink specials.

Mr. Hubble's Telescope
Free Family Fun at NASA Glenn Visitor Center on July 16th, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Join us for a discussion about the Hubble Space Telescope’s latest astronomical results and it upcoming servicing mission. Dr. Frank Summers (Researcher, Space Telescope Science Institute) will present “The Hubble Space Telescope: Greatest Hits” at 11 a.m. and at 1 p.m. will present “Hubble Servicing Mission 4 – Status Report.” Reservations are required for these free presentations only and can be made by calling 216-433-9653. As part of this event we will have kids’ telescope craft, “Picture Yourself in Space photo-booth and handouts! For further event information visit http://glennevents.grc.nasa.gov.

Cheerleading – Grades 3-4
Participants will cheer for the 3-4 grade tackle football teams participating in a 4 to 5 game/scrimmage season in the recreational in-house program. Cost is $45 per participant – Lakewood residents only.
Practice starts in September. Deadline for registration is August 31st. Participants 10 years of age and older must have a physical on file at the Recreation Department prior to participating.

NFL Flag Football Grades 2-3
Players will participate in a 5 game recreational in-house program. Cost is $45 per resident/$65 per non-resident. Games will being Saturday, September 20th. Deadline for registration is August 31st. Critically acclaimed and wildly hysterical, Altar Boyz is a musical-comedy spoof about a Christian boy band riding the wave of America’s latest fascination with religion. Complete with hip melodies, weird moves and hair products, the apostles of pop – Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan, and Abraham bring their soul-saving tour to the Big Apple. Show times are 8:00 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays.
Tickets are $28 for adults, $25 for seniors and $17 for students (22 and under with I.D.). Discounts are available for groups of 13 or more. Rush tickets for students (22 and under with I.D.) are offered for $10 each on Sundays only, 30 minutes prior to curtain, based on availability. To reserve tickets, call the Beck Center Box Office at 216-521-2540. Beck Center is located at 17801 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood, just ten minutes west of downtown Cleveland. Altar Boyz
Beck Center for the Arts presents the rockin’, rafter-raising, soul-saving spoof, Altar Boyz on the Mackey Main Stage, July 18 through August 17. Winner of the 2005 Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical, Altar Boyz is a fast-paced, booty-swinging musical comedy about a fictitious Christian boy-band performing the last concert of their “Raise the Praise” tour. Join heavenly heartthrobs – Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan, and Abraham as they dance and sing their hearts out to save the souls of the sinful.
Based on the book by Kevin Del Aguila with music and lyrics by Gary Adler and Michael Patrick Walker, Altar Boyz was nominated for many 2005 Drama Desk Awards including Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Choreography, Outstanding Music, Outstanding Lyrics, and Outstanding Book of a Musical.

Would you like to win a Stratocaster guitar and/or other prizes? Can you play and sing like Jimi Hendrix? Well tonight's the night to find out! This is a contest to determine the best Jimi Hendrix player and vocalist. There will be a backing band of drummer and bass player provided for you. You come and perform the guitar and vocals to Jimi Hendrix songs. The best performers will win prizes.
