Lakewood Arts Festival
The 31st Annual Lakewood Arts Festival will take place on Saturday,August 2, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Detroit Avenue between Belle and Elmwood Avenues. This year’s festival is a juried exhibition of all media in fine arts and crafts and will feature 160 artists from across the country and over 30 additional booths operated by various not-for-profit organizations and offering food, beverages, products and activities for children. In addition, live music will be performed throughout the day at Sinagra Park, located at Cook and Detroit Avenues.
Detroit Avenue in downtown Lakewood will be closed to traffic between 5:30 AM and 9:00 PM along Detroit Avenue between Belle and Elmwood Avenues. The festival will take place rain or shine and there is no admission fee.

Lakewood Masonic Temple Open House and "Trinkets and Treasures" Bazaar
The Busy Bee Auxilliary of Ann Rutledge Chapter #453 of Ohio Eastern Star will host an Open House and "Trinkets and Treasures" Bazaar at the Lakewood Masonic Temple, 15300 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio on Saturday, August 2nd. from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. at the far west end of the Lakewood Arts Festival.
The Open House will include Guided Tours of the historic building by Masonic members,live folk music by Lakewoodite, Jim Schafer and other folk singers; a book signing by "Bugs" Williams for his book, "Remember When? Growing Up In The '50's in Cleveland," chosen Book of the Year, 2007 by the WestPark Historical Society; Contra Dancing with band, "Mud In Yer Eye;" plus a large variety of trinkets and treasures offered for sale.
Refreshments will include hot dogs, chips and pop, and homemade perogis.
The Lakewood Masonic temple was built in 1916 and its pipe organ is registered with the Historical Pipe Irgan Registry. The building features marble staircases, a lower level dining room, 2nd. floor Ballroom, and 3rd. floor meeting room for Temple members which include Masons, Eastern Stars,DeMolays and Beauceant, and a church group. Lakewood Kiwanis, Contra Dancers and Swing Dancers meet there on a regular basis, while the building is available for private parties and events.

Participants must be at least 14 years old.
$7 Entry Fee - All participants will receive a Commemorative T-Shirt.
Spectators - free! (Donations will be accepted)
All proceeds to benefit the Jerry Gruss Scholarship Fund for Excellence in Athletics and Academics at Lakewood High School, and The American Cancer Society

Players will participate in a 4 to 5 game/scrimmage recreational in-house program. Cost is $65 per player – Lakewood residents only.
Practice starts the week of August 11th and deadline for registration is August 8th.
Season format will be based on the number of registrations. All participants must have a physical on file at the Recreation Department prior to participating

Altar Boyz
Beck Center for the Arts presents the rockin’, rafter-raising, soul-saving spoof, Altar Boyz on the Mackey Main Stage, July 18 through August 17. Winner of the 2005 Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical, Altar Boyz is a fast-paced, booty-swinging musical comedy about a fictitious Christian boy-band performing the last concert of their “Raise the Praise” tour. Join heavenly heartthrobs – Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan, and Abraham as they dance and sing their hearts out to save the souls of the sinful.
Based on the book by Kevin Del Aguila with music and lyrics by Gary Adler and Michael Patrick Walker, Altar Boyz was nominated for many 2005 Drama Desk Awards including Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Choreography, Outstanding Music, Outstanding Lyrics, and Outstanding Book of a Musical.
Show times for Altar Boyz are 8:00 pm Fridays and Saturdays and 3:00 pm Sundays. Ticket prices are $28 for adults, $25 for seniors and $17 for students (22 and under with I.D.). Group discounts are available for parties of 13 or more. Rush tickets for students (22 and under with I.D.) are offered for $10 each on Sundays only, 30 minutes prior to curtain, based on availability.
